Biography

As a multidisciplinary scholar with five higher education degrees in economics, political science, and communication, Dr. Kim’s scholarship focuses on dissemination and implementation (D&I) science in the context of health communication, human-machine (artificial intelligence) communication, and leadership communication in the promotion of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and scientific information and public policy diffusion. Theoretically, Dr. Kim has contributed to literature about the theory of diffusion of innovations (DOI) that is facilitated through diverse communication channels including interpersonal communication, technology-mediated communication, and traditional/new media. Dr. Kim has practiced his knowledge and skills of DOI and social marketing for many domestic and international health and organizational communication projects. Along with the nature of communication that intersects all human activities and relationships, Dr. Kim’s research and publications cut across economics, political science, education, as well as public health. Currently, Dr. Kim works with many esteemed U.S. and international scholars and practitioners to construct public health crisis communication policies and guidelines at the individual, organizational, and national levels, while addressing health equity globally.

Dr. Kim has very competitive knowledge and skills in multiple methods and is truly in favor of mixed methods incorporating quantitative and qualitative methods and hybrid methods (e.g., social network analysis). He always emphasizes the importance of methodological triangulation in the analytical process of confirmation/disconfirmation and designing, implementing, and evaluating public health interventions. In fact, the assessment of how well different methodologies perform in adding to research and practical insights in the field is a true intellectual pleasure for him.
Dr. Kim has led and been involved in many sponsored research and service projects funded by governmental agencies and private organizations/foundations. For all the research and practical projects, he favors collaboration with his colleagues, external agencies, students, and other stakeholders. One of my major commitments to his job has been the promotion of creative work and state-of-the-art research that effectively and efficiently contributes to public health among socially and culturally marginalized populations and social change in a desirable way. Related to these goals, he has actively led and been part of many academic and service projects.

Dr. Kim has successfully assumed many leadership roles in various academic associations, journals, and project groups, and in professional and governmental organizations at the community, national, and international levels. Based on his substantial experience working with external organizations, He has a good sense of academy-industry collaborations, sharing information and opportunities with other faculty members and researchers, and fostering partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
